ILM Level 7 Certificate 

This qualification is for internal or external coaches, who work with senior level coaching clients, and for senior level people who wish to grow their coaching skills.  As this qualification is at a postgraduate level of study, you will be expected to engage in academic readings e.g. in relation to leadership development in organisations, improving leadership performance through executive coaching, evidencing enhanced organisational performance through improved leadership etc.  All such references will be provided to you on the course, and you will be supported to think through and discuss with peers, your understanding of these papers, and the implications for your organisation.

 

The ‘taught’ elements of the qualification (2 day workshops 1, 2 and 3) and facilitated discussions, provide the models, tools and theory, needed for the qualification. You will also be encouraged to share what you know/your experience/references you have found useful. 

 

As well as group supervision you will also have dedicated 1-1 supervision with a qualified Taylor Clarke Coach Supervisor.  We believe 1-1 supervision is a really important support and challenge forum and a valuable part of this programme. 

 

Peer learning groups will be established early on in the course; many people find these invaluable in their learning – the support, challenge and networking achieved through these learning forums can be huge. 

 

Undertaking the assignments – whilst often not the part of the course which participants look forward to! – is often in retrospect, one of the most useful, in that participants are required to reflect in depth on their understanding of what they are learning, and the conclusions they are drawing.  This really consolidates learning, in a powerful way.

 

There are two facilitated discussion sessions; topics with associated reading are provided, and the tutor will join in with views and questions for you.

 

And last but certainly not least, your client practice hours provide a rich source of ‘real learning’.  For the Certificate, you will need to work with two or three coaching clients, and accumulate a total of 20 coaching hours coaching with them.  This needs to be carefully recorded, and you are expected to prepare for each coaching session, achieve set goals in each session, and reflect on the session afterwards.  We provide 1-1 supervision and group supervision with Taylor Clarke supervisors for these practice hours.  This more than meets supervision-practice ratios as set down by all the UK professional coaching bodies. 

An approximate timeline is given below:

  • Upfront: conversation with Gwynneth Rees-Kenny, to ensure the course is right for you

  • Pre-work (various reading)

  • Month 1:  Workshop 1 (2 days: 0900-1700)

  • Following Workshop 1, begin process of finding practice clients; undertake pre-reading for Workshop 2

  • Month 2:  Workshop 2 (2 days: 0900-1700)

  • Following Workshop 2, finalise practice clients and start coaching;  take part in 2 discussion sessions.  Take part in Tutorial 1 to support understanding of  Assignment 1 requirements

  • Month 3: Workshop 3 (2 days: 0900-1700)

  • Following Workshop 3, carry on coaching and have coaching supervision.  Keep Learning Journal, and maintain Coaching Diary.  Continuing to work on Assignment 1.

  • Month 4: all other learning activities continue.

  • Month 5: all other learning activities continue.

  • Months 2-6: Peer groups meet (4 meetings in total)

  • Months 3-6: Coaching practice to total 20 coaching hours to be completed

  • Months 3-6: Coaching Supervision with Supervisor (4 hours in total)

  • The two discussion sessions are about: Evaluation of coaching; Endings: bringing the coaching relationship to a close

  • Undertake Assignments, supported by Tutorials (Assignment 1 due in Month 5; Assignment 2 due in Month 8)

  • Introductions and contracting as a learning group

  • Definitions and models of executive coaching

  • Coaching demonstration and debrief

  • Skills of coaching and skills practice: inquiry, listening, questioning, reflection and active listening as a coach

  • Self-assessment against coaching competencies

  • Coaching Practice and Feedback in small groups, led by a tutor, using CLEAR model

  • Mindfulness as a coach and a learner

  • Managing the executive coaching relationship, and creating the right environment for coaching

  • Reflective Practice

 

Workshop 2:

  • Coaching-v-Mentoring

  • Applying an OD lens to executive coaching

  • Coaching Practice and Feedback in small groups, led by a tutor

  • Reflective Practice

  • Using the Coaching Diary, Learning Log, Supervision Log

  • Developing a Coach Profile

  • Coaching Supervision and CPD for coaches

  • Forming Peer Groups

 

Workshop 3:

  • Adult Learning, Values & Beliefs

  • Who are we? Who are our clients? Working with the dynamics of interactions: personality preferences and communication in coaching (e.g. Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Transactional Analysis (TA) )

  • Ethics as a coach

  • Coaching Practice and Feedback in small groups, led by a tutor

  • Different creative techniques to use in coaching

  • Solutions-Focused Approach and OSKAR model
     

Coaching Supervision

You will undertake coaching supervision with Gwynneth Rees-Kenny or Wendy Robinson.Both Gwynneth and Wendy are qualified Coach Supervisors – accredited by The Coaching Supervision Academy.Supervision is increasingly being seen as best practice not only for developing coaches but for accredited, experienced coaches. In supervision you can reflect on your growing skills as a coach, target your ongoing skills development – know what to try out next time for example, and generally be supported and challenged.
